LC TOWER RENOVATION

program: Renovation / Residential location: Sharjah, UAE status: Phase 1: Completed year: 2019

Lagoon residential G+16 tower in Sharjah Corniche street is one of the very first high rise buildings of the UAE. Built in 1988 with sophisticated facade ornaments, it is considered as a historical landmark that is an important part of the old fabric of Sharjah. We were approached by the city decision makers through a competition process to preserve, revitalize and maintain the residential function of the building. The full process is scheduled to be completed within a span of two years.

The first phase of the project which has been executed in December 2019 consists of restoration of the facade as well as renovation of the interior common areas. Our approach towards the design of the interior space was to provide a modern translation of materials and colors that were commonly used back in time and in a sense that creates an OLD & NEW feel. We have partially maintained finishes such as door handles, elevator components, the blue painted frames and elements of an historical value. The walls and floor has been fully cladded with Travertine and ceiling is a combo of linear lights and grilles finished in matte white aluminum. As the previous interior space felt tight and narrow, a full height mirror has been used as cladding to a wall immediate to the entrance in order to create an opennes effect.
